Who We Are

Every Child Deserves to Feel Safe, Loved, and Full of Possibility

Our Story

Since Fall 2024, our nonprofit has been dedicated to nurturing creativity, literacy, and confidence in children from lower-income households. Through after-school programs, summer workshops, read-aloud sessions and writing competitions, we’ve helped young minds discover the power of their own stories.

Executive Board

Iris Chen

Founder, Executive Director

Iris Chen is a high school student from Westchester, New York with a passion for advocacy, and was inspired to create Blooming Voices after working with children and families affected by domestic violence at the local courts. An avid reader, a published writer, and a skilled ventriloquist, she wanted to bring the joy and creativity of storytelling to the children she worked with. Aside from leading workshops, she also advocates for legislation protecting children and families, and conducts empirical research aimed at identifying ways to better support children and help them thrive. In her free time, she enjoys ice skating and browsing the latest releases at her local bookstore.

Favorite book: One Hundred Years of Solitude by Gabriel García Márquez

Hema Singh is a student from Albany, New York, with a passion for advocacy. Her journey led her to join Blooming Voices because her core aspirations have always revolved around advocating for children in vulnerable situations, particularly those facing circumstances beyond their control. She’s always believed in using her voice to stand up for those who may not have the opportunity to speak for themselves. She’s incredibly grateful that Blooming Voices provides her with the platform to make a meaningful impact through connecting with organizations and services in her community.
